Reaffirm the Covenant with God
Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
Baptism of the Lord Sunday is part of the liturgical church year scheduled the Sunday after Epiphany. This year it falls on January 7, 2018. The scripture for this Sunday reminds us of the story about Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptism. During the worship service, the congregation will also celebrate the reaffirmation of our baptismal covenant and be reminded of our own personal baptism.
Baptism is one of the two sacraments that the Methodist practice that was ordained by Jesus Christ. As Methodist, we recognize God’s prevenient grace is at work in us from the time of our birth. This is why we practice infant baptism. Baptism is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace of God working in our lives. We believe God is the primary actor, through the sign of the water, offering the gift of grace and the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit. At our baptism, we are initiated into the family of God and called to participate in the life of the church.
Please join us in worship at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, to reaffirm the covenant that God has made with you and leave empowered by the Holy Spirit. If you haven’t been baptized, maybe this is the day for you to make that decision to accept God’s grace.
